Dr. Joel Kettner, MDP Senior Fellow 2012-2014Joel Kettner

Dr. Kettner joined the University of Winnipeg in 2012 as a Visiting Professor and Senior Fellow in the Master's in Indigenous Development Program, primarily as an instructor and mentor in the health sciences pillar of the program.

Amongst his current roles and responsibilities, Dr. Kettner is also the medical director of the International Centre for Infectious Diseases, scientific lead for the National Collaborating Centre for Infectious Diseases, Director of the Master of Public Health program at the University of Manitoba, health mentor for a Grand Challenges international research project, freelance consultant, and surgical assistant. He is president of the Public Health Physicians of Canada and a director of the Canadian Public Health Association.

Wade DavisDr. Wade Davis, MDP Senior Fellow 2011-2012

Wade Davis joined the University of Winnipeg in 2011 as the Senior Fellow in the Master's in Indigenous Development Program. Wade was named by the National Geographic Society as one of the Explorers for the Millennium; he has been described as “a rare combination of scientist, scholar, poet and passionate defender of all of life’s diversity.”

An ethnographer, writer, photographer, and filmmaker, Davis holds degrees in anthropology and biology and received his Ph.D. in ethnobotany, all from Harvard University. Mostly through the Harvard Botanical Museum, he spent over three years in the Amazon and Andes as a plant explorer, living among fifteen Indigenous groups in eight Latin American nations while making some 6000 botanical collections.
