 Lisa FosterLisa C Folster

Hello! Boozhoo!
My name is Lisa C Folster. I am a student at the University of Winnipeg. I received an award for the 2021-2022 semester. I am extremely proud to have been considered, and honoured to receive it. I come from an educated family. My father is Reverend Doctor Stewart Folster, an he helped the homeless for years at a street ministry in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. I hope to follow in his foot steps and want to work in a non-profit organization helping the community when I get my degree. I am also Indigenous, and draw a lot of my strength from the artwork that I produce. I make Dream catchers. They are my way of meditating and a way of grounding myself, as well as seeing how happy it makes everyone. My name is Strong Voice Earth Woman. I am Eagle clan. I am Anishinabe, Saulteax, and European decent. I am a Mother of four adult children, and one grandson. I am happily married to my devoted husband, and we have two cat fur babies. I am extremely grateful to receive the award, and will put the funds to good use. I hope to complete my degree, and to start my own award someday for a student like myself to assist with their education goals. Thank you! Meegwetch!

"I feel super grateful be the recipient of this award and was not expecting this. This award is a huge financial help to me and will take the financial stress off my family. I declared my UIC major in January 2019 and since then I have become passionate about inner - city studies. Prior to entering university, I was not very knowledgeable on the inner city in general and I have learned so much in the past few years. I feel privileged to have had many amazing professors in the department of Urban & Inner-City Studies. They have influenced me and taught me how to think critically. Thank you to the University of Winnipeg for awarding me this scholarship."
