In-Course Awards

 

In-Course awards are for students currently attending the University of Winnipeg. 

海角社区 has hundreds of awards available for students from different backgrounds, departments and faculties. Criteria for these awards may include minimum GPA, demonstrated financial need, and extracurricular activities. Many in-course awards require applicants to have completed their first year (at least 30 credit hours).

How to Apply for In-Course Awards?

Our online application makes applying for awards easy. 

When should I apply?

We encourage students to apply every term. We offer the majority of our in-course awards in the Fall term. However, applications for the Opportunity Fund Bursary and General Bursary open every term.

How much can I expect to receive?

The value for in-course awards range from $100 to over $10,000.

Where can I see available awards?

View the currently available. We will add more opportunities as they become available. Remember to sign in to the portal and complete the application steps to get matched to as many awards as possible.

Automatically Offered Awards

  • Departmental (Faculty/Major) Awards: These are department specific awards. We will notify selected award recipients by December of each year. No application is necessary for most departmental awards.
    • NOTE: We recommend that students check with their Faculty or Department office to ensure they do not require an additional application.
  • Academic Proficiency Scholarships: This scholarship is awarded to students currently registered in at least 12 credit hours with a sessional GPA of 4.00 or higher in at least 12 credit hours in the previous Fall/Winter and Summer sessions combined. Students must have completed at least 30 credit hours at the University to be eligible for this award.
    • NOTE: Eligible students are rank-ordered. Recipients will be awarded monetary value until all the budget has been disbursed or until the last eligible student has received an offer, whichever comes first.
  • Dean’s Honour List: This is a transcript notation for students with high academic achievement. It is awarded to currently registered students who have achieved sessional GPA of 3.55 or higher in at least 18 credit hours completed in the previous Fall/Winter and Summer sessions combined. Students will be considered after they have completed 30 credit hours at the University.
    • “Student of Distinction” = sessional GPA of 3.55 to 3.99
    • “Student of Highest Distinction” = sessional GPA of 4.00+

Awards for Graduating Students

Graduate and Professional Studies Expenses Bursary

  • These awards go to students in their final year of a 4-year, Honours, or Integrated Education undergraduate degree program who are applying for Graduate or Professional Studies. 
  • Complete the  (opens December)
  • Deadline: March 31 or until funds are exhausted

Convocation Awards by Nomination

  • These awards are open to undergraduate students graduating in October, February or June. Recipients receive their awards during the Spring Convocation. Faculty, Staff, and students can nominate applicants. Students may also self-nominate.
  • Complete the nomination form (opens January)
  • Deadline: closed as of April 15, 2024

Convocation Medals

  • 海角社区 awards medals during the Spring (June) Convocation to students who achieved the highest standing in their degree program and major.
  • Eligibility:
    • Must graduate in October, February, or June of the current academic year
    • Must achieve a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.75

Dr. Douglas W. Leatherdale Global Citizen Internships

The Dr. Douglas W. Leatherdale Global Citizen Internships assist students who choose to enhance their degree programs with credits from international studies in Human Rights and Global Studies, including any of the major areas represented by the Institutes of Global College.

The Internships are available to University of Winnipeg students wishing to study abroad, and also are available to international students to pursue their studies at 海角社区.
