On My Way to University Series 

Congratulations! You are on your way to becoming a University of Winnipeg student.  Click on your start term below and you'll see the steps you need to follow to get ready for University.

Students starting in Winter Term (January 2025)

Step 1: Learn how university works.

Get started with planning your degree and learn how to select and register for your first-year classes.

Attend ONE of the following presentations:

  • Next Steps for International Students(NSIS) – a virtual presentation by an academic advisor which includes information specific to international students. Upcoming sessions:
    November 7, 2024 - 9:00-10:30 a.m., Zoom
    November 21, 2024 -  9:00-10:30 a.m., Zoom
    December 5, 2024  - 9:00-10:30 a.m., Zoom
    Watch for an email from International Student Services or email iss@uwinnipeg.ca for more info.
  • First-Year Information Session(FYI) – a virtual presentation by an academic advisor which includes a live demonstration of WebAdvisor, our student registration system. To register, go to FYI sessions.

Step 2: Get ready for the start of university.

You have registered for classes, now what? Get ready for the start of university! Learn what’s important to do before your classes start at a Let Me Know (LMK) session. Staff from Student Central will cover topics such as tuition fees, payments, lockers, textbooks, how to navigate campus, and how to get a student ID card.  Join us online to learn about the upcoming term and ask any questions you may have before starting UWinnipeg.

The LMK session will be on Friday, December 13, 2024 - 9:30-10:30 a.m. via Zoom.

Step 3:  Attend Orientation.

Meet fellow students and staff, take a tour, and become familiar with academic expectations and the many support services available.

  • Orientation– Join us on Thursday, January 2, 2025 for presentations by student services staff, campus tours, and fun activities.  To register, go to Orientation. 

Step 4 (if applicable to you): Supplemental Events

Attend supplemental events with information pertinent to specific student groups.

 

Students starting in Spring Term (May 2025)

Step 1: Learn how university works.

Get started with planning your degree and learn how to select and register for your first-year classes.

Attend ONE of the following presentations:

  • First-Year Information Session(FYI) – a presentation by an academic advisor (on campus or virtual) which includes a live demonstration of WebAdvisor, our student registration system. To register, go to FYI sessions.
  • Next Steps for International Students(NSIS) – a virtual presentation by an academic advisor which includes information specific to international students. Watch for an email from International Student Services or email the office at iss@uwinnipeg.ca for more info.

*Pro Tip: Complete Step 1 before your registration start date, if possible.

Students starting in Fall Term (September 2025)

Get started with planning your degree and learn how to select and register for your first-year classes.

  • Getting Ready for First Year(GRFY) – a presentation by a UWinnipeg recruiter in your high school. GRFYs take place in March and April. To register, contact your guidance counsellor.
  • First-Year Information Session(FYI) – a presentation by an academic advisor (on campus or virtual) which includes a live demonstration of WebAdvisor, our student registration system. To register, go to FYI sessions.
  • Next Steps for International Students(NSIS) – a virtual presentation by an academic advisor which includes information specific to international students. Watch for an email from International Student Services or email the office at iss@uwinnipeg.ca for more info.
